The Porch Episode 3: Unlock

The Porch episode three follows the chicago performance crew around in their wondrous adventure to conquer the city of chicago. It starts off at our Korrupted system Krew practice or KSK. In the next scene we had just come from a battle up north and decided to stop at a friends dorm at Depaul University.

The Porch: Art Life

This week on the Porch we can walk over to the balcony and see some art.

Art is a creative process and through time and effort a message is transcribed. the message is not always clear, but you can feel it.

So far I have been trying to brand my style of art. This is important for a artist, making themselves distinguishable among other artists. I have a tag or more so a acronym. W.A.G.A.W.D - We are good at what we do, I abbreviate it with W.A.G.2 for better spacing. This comes from my thinking that I was not always good at doing whatever I am good at, but through practice and much  learning I have become good. The we is whoever feels the same way. ones that came up through a similar struggle as I have. You are good too -YAGT


Currently I have a series of art I am working on called MOOD. It is a portrait based art project that covers the eyes with the word mood. I sometimes leave the mood to be interpreted and some times I give the mood. I plan to branch off with a new series focusing on hunger that's all I will say for now.

WE ARE DARTH AVIATION

Wassup Peeps let me reintroduce myself. I am Kolin aka Reflex of Darth Aviation crew (DA).
It all started over the summer of 2015 when me and my friend Marcel aka Droiid of DA met our now good friend Devante aka Mojo of DA. We danced around the city of Chicago all summer and if you have ever walked passed the art museum downtown chicago any given saturday over the summer you might have caught us performing. We plan to be down there even more this summer.

When I first started recording the porch, my mini reality tv series, Darth Aviation was the main focus. it was like a bts of what we did when we were not dancing. which was us either helping people or even more dancing.

In DA I bring a couple of skills to the table. I am the videographer and artist behind the flyers, t -shirts, and business cards. We all try to promote ourselves and get shows/performances. We look for these as a means of revenue, to show off our hard work as dancers, and a chance for better opportunities to travel.

As of late we have been focusing on dance battles so we joined up with a crew named Korrupted Systems Krew or KSK but as soon as weather in chicago gets warm again we will be back at spreading our name and showcasing our new skills :).

We work hard in our crafts and here is a collaboration of all of us collectively pitching in ideas to come up with a original concept video. I hope whoever sees this enjoys. Please leave some feedback. we take song requests to dance to. Even video concepts like make a music video to a certain song or even dance in a storm trooper costume! haha

Mortal Kombat X and gaming in general

So you want to compete in video games, but you dont know how. well im here to tell you I cant help you but i will talk about competing in fighting games.

i am a competitive fighting game person. At first it was only about a video game called Tekken. Then me and my friend decided we wanted to go to a video game tournament and train for EVO. Whats evo? well maybe one of the biggest gaming tournament period. The winners make tons of money tens of thousands of dollars and even can get sponsored by companies like madcatz.

My friend and I however are not in it for the money...(._. ) ok maybe a little, lot, but we are in it for the glory. We are training in the game Mortal Kombat X. How far can we take ourselves and where do we stand in a tournament setting against pro players, people who get paid to do this?

Did I mention i was a competitive gamer?

Dance Battles are not about Dance?!

Aight My Peeps get ready for a rant and a video clip! Today, right now I am going to grant you special privileges and make you all dance judges. Every single dance battle competition I have ever been to I have lost either the first round or did not make it passed prelims. I only enter in to all styles dance battles. My conclusion was that all styles was not and is not what I think it is. I thought dance battles was where two dances compete to see who dances better.

But at this event I managed to get some of dance footage of me battling it out.




after watching the video I think I won. With no bias I really think I won. The person I battled is a friend so there is no shade being thrown.  I just want to figure out why I don't get to advance.
Who do you think won?...


I have respect for all dance and dance styles. I know what looks good and what doesn't. I have seen the best and the worst of dance and with that knowledge I feel I can accurately rank levels of different styles to those that battle. with that knowledge anyone can qualify to hold certain privilege to judge a dance battle. of course there is more to judging different battles with different styles. I myself don't particularly have a style I just move my body. but I have rhythm, style, musicality, and motion... I think the judges look for that cultural/ traditional dance styles because its what they are used to.

Street Styles in a ALL Styles Dance Battle

Wassup my fellow audience, in this post I am talking about dance battles and why I believe i may never win one in Chicago.

My style of dance is a mix between animation, pop lock, and hip hop. It can be referred to as a street style mainly because it is self taught and comes as a outlet, in a negative society, to be positive. I have not taken any classes to learn, just simple hard work, time, and dedication. 

All styles in Chicago dance scene, in my opinion is not all styles. It is a few styles from very close observations and up close research i can say it consists of 3 main styles. Chicago Foot work, Pop Lock, and House. Bboying can also count as all styles, however, bboys have their own circuits of bboy battles and usually don't compete in a all styles dance battle.

I have wayyy more information to reveal and many secrets to unfold but alas i don't want to over saturate anyone. so next post i will go into further the bias of Chicago dance scene and more updates on the porch.
